Mastering Pitta Season with Moonlit Ayurvedic Wisdom
Radiant souls, summer's Pitta season ignites with fiery energy, but its heat can unsettle our balance, stirring irritablity or inflammation. As Dr. Arlini Singh, Canada's leading Ayurvedic expert, I'm unveiling time-honoured secrets, infused with lunar magic, to keep you cool and vibrant at A-YUR-VEDA, in Burlington, Ontario. Wtih the full moon glowing on July 10th, let's harmonize Pitta's heat with these mystical, expertly crafted tips!
Diet : Chia- Mint Lime Spritzer & Nourishing Quinoa Tabouleh
Pitta's sharpness disrupts digestion, but my chia-mint- lime spritzer restores harmony.
Muddle 5 fresh mint leaves with half a lime's juice, add 1 tsp chia seeds and pour in sparkling water with a drizzle of maple syrup. Let sit for 5 minutes. Mint cools Pitta's heat, chia grounds its lightness and maple syrup soothes without clogging channels.
For lunch, my Quinoa Tabouleh salad balances Pitta's intensity : cook 1 cup quinoa as per instructions on the package, and once sufficiently cooled, toss with 1 cup halved cherry tomatoes, 1/2 cup chopped parsley, 1/4 cup diced cucumber, 1/4 cup crumbled feta, 2 tbsp toasted pumpkin seeds and 2 tbsp dried cranberries. Dress wth 2 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp lemon juice and a pinch of sumac. Quinoa grounds, while tomatoes and cucumber cools, and seeds nourish.
Sip my Joyful Heart Iced tea (recipe below) for calm. We carry a whole range of herbal teas from Banyan Botanical at our retail store in Burlington.

Steep 2 tsp Banyan Botanicals' Joyful Heart tea (CCF tea with Hibiscus and Rose) in 1 cup hot water for 5 minutes. Strain, cool and mix with 1/2 cup coconut water, 1 tsp honey and a basil sprig. Serve over ice. Hibiscus cools Pitta's fire, rose soothes the heart - mind, coconut water hydrates, honey balances and basil uplifts - a summer elixir rooted in Ayurvedic's wisdom.
Lifestyle : Moonlit Romance and Restful Sleep
Pitta peaks in midday heat, but my moonlit cooling ritual on July 10th's full moon restores balance. Step barefoot onto grass at twilight, swaying to a dreamy playlist under the moon's slivery glow. This cooling and soft lunar energy, calms Pitta's raging fire, softening your heart with romantic serenity. At bedtime, massage your feet with our Sleep Easy Oil, its cooling herbs grounding Pitta and take one I Sleep Soundly tablet to calm the mind for deep rest. Grab your oil and tablets at A-YUR-VEDA.
These tips, steeped in Ayurveda's science, align you with summer's rhythm. Visit us in Burlington or shop online for Joyful Heart tea, Sleep Easy Oil and I Sleep Soundly tables to glow this summer!
Did you Know?
Did you know that quinoa, featured in our Pitta- soothing tabouleh salad, is a complete protein? As an Ayurvedic Doctor, I am passionate about nutrition. Unlike most grains, quinoa contains all nine essential amino acids - the building blocks your body needs to form proteins for muscle repair, enzyme function and vibrant energy. Amino acids, sourced from foods like quinoa, are vital because your body can't produce them alone. Thjey support tissue growth and immunity, keeping you radiant.
Yet, Ayurveda warns against excess protein. Too much burdens agni (digestive fire), especially in Pitta's fiery summer, causing ama (toxins), sluggishness and inflammation and even kidney stones from metabolic strain. Quinoa's light nature delivers balanced protein without overwhelming digestion, unlike heavy eats. Pair it with our Joyful Heart tea to cool Pitta and enhance harmony.
Community Corner : Your Ayurvedic Questions Answered
I love connecting with our A-YUR-VEDA community and happy to answer questions. This month, we're answering a question from one of our cherished patients! A real sweet heart!
Question from Margaret P :
"Dr. Singh, I adore my copper carafe for drinking water, as you recommend for balancing doshas. But how do I keep it clean and shiny? It's starting to look dull."
Dr. Singh's Answer :
Margaret, your copper carafe is a gem for infusing water with Ayurvedic benefits, boosting digestion and calming Pitta's summer heat. For a gleaming exterior, there are several options :
Option 1 : I recommend Twinkle Copper Polish - apply a small amount with a soft cloth, rub gently and rinse thoroughly.
Option 2 : For a herbal cleanse, mix the juice of half a lomon with 1 tsp crushed dried mint leaves, to form a paste. Rub it on the exterior, let sit for 5 minutes and rinse. Lemon's natural acidity and mint's purifying essene restores the shine.
Option 3 : A more traditional Ayurvedic option, is to blend 1 tbsp tamarind paste with a pinch of neem leaf powder ( from health stores , or you can crush a neem tablets purchased from our store), and water. Apply and let it sit for 5 minutes. Rinse.
For the interior, dissolve a bottle cleaner tablet (like Bottle Bright) in warm water and scrub with a bottle brush, Rinse well for pure dosha- balancing water.
Copper develops a patina - a greenish - brown oxidative layer. In Ayurveda, this patina is harmless, even protective, but dulls your carfe's glow. Monthly cleaning with Twinkle or a herbal paste or the more traditional Ayurvedic method, will keep it radiant. Pair this ritual with our Joyful Heart Tea for a cooling summer vibe. Copper naturally keeps liquids cool.

Final Reflection :
" We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. Mental phenomena are preceded by the mind, ruled by thought, made of mind. If you speak or act with a corrupted heart, then suffering follows you - just like the wheel of the cart follows the ox that pulls it...
If you speak or act with a calm, bright heart, then happiness follows you, like a shadow that never leaves."
The first verse of Dhammapada, a text expressing the words of the Buddha.
Conclusion :
As we continue to battle this summer's fiery Pitta season, , it is my sincere desire that you incorporate the above Snippets to stay balanced. Let the glow of July 10th's full moon inspire cooling rituals that nuture your body and soul.
